The Porsche 928 was a sports grand tourer produced by Porsche AG of Germany from 1978 to 1995. Originally intended to replace the company's acclaimed 911, the 928 combined the power, poise, and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort, and equipment of a luxury sedan.
The 928 was the first V8-powered Porsche.
It was also the company's first vehicle to use a front-engine/rear-wheel drive layout.
The 928 has been called "the best GT car of all time" and "a true classic".
The Porsche 928 was originally designed as a successor to the company's highly successful 911 model. However, after its introduction in 1978, it became clear that the 911 would continue to be Porsche's flagship model for many years to come. The 928 nonetheless became one of Porsche's most popular models, selling over 63,000 units between 1978 and 1995.
